Dynamic Goals
(Inspired by Eckhart Tolle in his book “A New Earth”)
Tolle says that most people set goals that enhance their identities or their sense of self.
Ex: I want $2 Million dollars, live by the beach, own a big house, and fast car.
He goes on to say that these goals are “dead” or “static”; that they affirm the apparent lack that exists here and now in comparison to the future, and thus, might induce a level of stress of wanting to be there in that moment instead of here in this one.
He says, the material possession aren’t bad, nor is the goal, however, losing yourself in material possession for a sense of identity is very limiting to who you really are.
He then offers a new way to set goals. Dynamic Goals!
Goals that are rooted in the moment and how they might benefit others.
Not so great: I want to become a famous singer and own cool stuff.
Great: I see myself enjoying making and sharing beautiful music with my voice that inspires others to live with confidence and let go of their hurtful pasts.
One is more alive, empowering and tangible while the other creates frustration.
