Information Diet.

If you have goals or enjoy being intentional with your time. You might consider going on an information diet.

There are mega advertising dollars and algorithms designed to retain our attention and “feed” us “users” things we “want”…

No more. I have pulled the plug (yet again)… and I invite you on a de-stimulation journey. How long is up to you! 1 day might be enough to bring clarity to the vital few things that add value to your existence.

The overstimulation age is upon us, and it seems to create unnecessary psychological suffering. In my humble opinion, I don’t think we were made for overstimulation.

Time for some meaningful cuts to protect my mind. I might be a little extreme in my approach, but desperate times call for desperate measures, as the saying goes. Do you really understand something until you find both ends?

For me:

  • No social media

  • No news/ politics

  • No youtube

  • No music in the car (a monster I know, this one actually isn’t new I’ve been doing this for years off and on)

  • No social media (not hard as I don’t usually partake unless I need something useful)

  • No radio (lol)

  • No TV

  • No podcasts

  • No spotify

Basically, nothing with Ads. Or anything overly exciting to my senses.

To be successful at the above, here are some choices I have made:

  • I use my phone 2x a day to text my wife before and after work; otherwise, it stays in my car on DND.

  • I removed the speaker from my computer at work. It’s a lot less enticing to want to search or listen to anything without one, and I already have blockers installed.

That’s pretty much it. The phone is the posion 80% of the time.

WHAT DO YOU DO THEN?!

Sometimes nothing at all. I enjoy the moment. Birds chirping, clouds, people, animals, or the task I’m engaged in. It feels right.

Then, after doing that for a while, your own thoughts start emerging about your life and natural inclinations you have, and I have found that I naturally organize around those and realize how enjoyable they are, and that becomes the new focus.

*I have found that anytime I make space and purge a section of my life, something new and better fills its place! How wonderful!

Let me know if you try this and how it goes!
